Why You Should Actually Be Terrified Right Now

It’s what happened to Jews in Germany in 1938 when their passports were declared invalid. That is what is beginning to happen here, now, to Hispanic citizens along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Oh, is it bad to compare the GOP to Nazis? Well, if members of the GOP do not like being compared to Nazis, they should consider not behaving exactly like Nazis.

Hispanic U.S. citizens, some of whom were in the U.S. military, are not being allowed to renew their passports. This is reportedly happening to “hundreds, even thousands” of Latinos, according to a report in the Washington Post. They’re getting letters from the State Department saying it does not believe they are citizens. The government claims their citizenships are fraudulent. “I’ve had probably 20 people who have been sent to the detention center—U.S. citizens,” Jaime Diez, an attorney in Brownsville, told The Washington Post.

The Washington Post also reports on ICE officials coming to citizens’ homes and taking their passports away. This is an escalation from a few months ago, when Americans were detained by ICE officials just for speaking Spanish to one another.

The administration is currently launching an effort to take citizenship from people who they suspect of fraud in obtaining it. Fraud in these cases is exceedingly rare. The last time the government tried to strip people of their citizenship was, according to Columbia Professor Mae Ngai, during The Red Scare of the 1950s. As Ngai remarks, McCarthyism is not typically remembered as a good period in American history.

There is good reason to believe that this could portend still worse things to come for the U.S. Hispanic population, unless people begin to speak out loudly, and fast.

many people have been saying since the beginning he is going to come after citizens. First he came for undocumented, then for green card holders, and now for actual citizens. This doesn’t end with just that.

This is also happening in the context of an extremely close Senate election in Texas where a Democrat, Beto O’Rourke, is in a statistical tie with wildly unpopular Republican incumbent Ted Cruz. There’s a lot of energy on the Democratic side of this election, especially in this state, and you know what happens if your citizenship is in question, if your birth certificate is no longer proof of where you were born

You can’t vote.

In the wake of Trump’s move to denaturalize thousands of mexican immigrants who are legal citizens so that they can be deported, its good to remember that back during the beginning of the holocaust, Hitler originally started by deporting as many Jewish people as he could to any country that would take them. When that failed, he started killing them.

You know, encase you forgot.

And remember, Hitler wasn’t just killing people in the streets where all could see. A lot of German people didn’t even know what was really happening.

But with this large push to punish the free press and claiming that facts don’t matter and that the only news you can trust comes from the president, I can’t help but think it will be the same. People won’t be going to concentration camps, they will go to “prisons”. They will disappear, lost to the system. No one will know where they went, or what happened to them, and anyone who says that it is anything more sinister will be fired, talked over, and ignored.

Not to mention the fact that our president is actively working to piss off almost every world leader and organization that could possibly hold him accountable, all while befriending the one world leader who ALREADY PUTS PEOPLE IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS!

Pulling out of the UN Human Rights council had nothing to do with hubris or stupidity, it was a calculated move to protect America from being punished for what we are doing to innocent people.

if you’ve seen the breaking news that trump just signed an executive order today to end the family separation policy here’s some quick info to keep things in perspective

  • this doesn’t end the “zero tolerance” policy of prosecuting anyone who crosses the border “illegally”
  • the only thing this changes is that going forward, entire families will be detained together while awaiting prosecution
  • this offers no solution for freeing the thousands of children currently held in ICE child prisons or any path to reuniting them with their families
  • children will still be detained and treated as criminals
  • this will likely lead to thousands of families being held in ICE facilities and tent cities that will face the exact same issues of overcrowding, abuse, and inhumane conditions that exist in the child prisons

this is not a victory or a solution. This is the administration trying to cover their asses and avoid any more public outrage. They want people to see this as the end of the news story and go back to their lives. They want people to forget the thousands of children they are still keeping in cages in ICE facilities across the nation. This issue is not over and we cannot stop being outraged until we are given proof that the thousands of kidnapped children are returned to their families, and that the policy of arresting and prosecuting people who cross the border is ended.

Sometimes I think they’re deliberately pushing the envelope in being as horrible as possible so that when they’re only slightly less horrible it will seem like an “acceptable” degree of horrible in comparison.

Don’t let this tactic fool you. NONE OF THIS SHOULD BE NORMALIZED OR TREATED AS ACCEPTABLE.

i feel kinda fucked up that im living in a country with a nazi regime and not being able to do anything about it and nothing is working. we need to take to the streets in droves and riot. gather thousands of people. throw rocks at the white house. sprinkle sugar on the campgrounds where the tents are gonna be built (2 lbs of sugar can ruin up to one ton of unset concrete). or throw hydrogen peroxide filled water balloons at the exposed steel to corrode it faster because theyre literally building concentration camps in 106°F texas heat for children who cannot regulate their body temperature like adults

nobody in power is listening so we have to do it ourselves
